This tradition started in 2001 as a three-day long conference that featured famous speakers and multiple collaborations. It consisted of a rally, workshops and panel discussions that tackled systemic and social racism in the college community. 

Today, NMTE Week is a week-long celebration that follows an annual theme. It features panel discussions, Sankofa, the Black Caucus Games, Elections and Black Graduation.
