BLACK CAUCUS HOLDS ASHE AWARDS, UPLIFTING PENN STATE’S MARGINALIZED COMMUNITY

Penn State’s Black Caucus, the representative body for students of colors and their clubs, held its 9th annual Ashe Awards Dec. 7 in Alumni Hall. “Ashe” is a Yoruba word that means conceiving power or producing change. The first Ashe Awards show was in 2009, with 300 students in attendance. Nine years later, the Ashe Awards continue to be a positive staple in the community

The words “Cheers to 50 Years” hung in front of a glimmering gold backdrop at the entrance of Heritage Hall in the HUB-Robeson center Friday evening to welcome students and alumni to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Frederick Douglass Association’s founding.

BLACK, LATINO, AND ASIAN-PACIFIC CAUCUSES RELEASE STATEMENT WITH GREEK COUNCIL EXPRESSING SOLIDARITY IN THE FACE OF TRUMP’S ORDER

 The Black Caucus, Latino Caucus, and Asian Pacific American Caucus released a statement along with the Multicultural Greek Council, the National Panhellenic Greek Council, and Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity Inc. condemning Trump’s recent executive orders on immigration, which have temporarily banned both travel from seven Muslim-majority nations and the U.S. refugee resettlement program, unless the refugee in question is of non-Muslim faith.

Danieltta Pantoe is not letting her year hold her back.

The Liberia-born, Florida-raised sophomore found her way to Penn State seemingly on a whim, with an open mind, and she has quickly made this campus her home.
